Amazon is expanding its book services as it debuts the Prime Book Box for Amazon Prime members this year.

Books For Kids

Amazon introduced the new feature on Tuesday, May 1, which is geared for families with young children from newborn to 12 years old. Customers will have the option of getting books anywhere between one to three months. The box costs $23, with the option of either two hardcover books or four board books.

How Does This Work?

Customers who are interested in the service should know that the Prime Book Box is an invitation-only service. Once Prime members are selected for this program, they will have to describe to Amazon their children's reading interests. After the young readers' interests are recorded, Amazon will provide a list of recommended books for the particular users. The customer can choose from an itemized list or from surprise selections. Amazon is giving customers the option of skipping a box at any time.

Tech Crunch revealed that customers with babies to 2-year-old kids would get the four board books. Meanwhile, older children in age groups 3 to 5 years old, 6 to 8 years old, and 9 to 12 years old are expected to receive the two hardcover books. Some of the books featured in the announcement are If Animals Kissed Good Night, Little Excavator, Those Darn Squirrels, and Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire.

"We want to help Prime members discover great children's books that will inspire a love of reading. Prime Book Box is a subscription that delivers curated children's books every 1, 2, or 3 months, and saves customers up to 35% off of List Price," said an Amazon spokesperson exclusively to Tech Times.

The Amazon Corner

The announcement of the Amazon Prime Box comes after the technology company announced that it would raise the price of the Amazon Prime membership. On April 26, Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky revealed that the amount was increased from $99 to $119. Olsavsky stated that the company has seen costs increasingly rise over the years. The new fee will take place May 11, and existing users will see the price change when it is time to renew on June 16.

Amazon also introduced Echo Dot Kids' Edition. The new wireless Bluetooth speaker comes with parental controls and a kid-friendly Alexa. Also, the Echo Dot Kids' Edition comes with a two-year warranty, which guarantees a free replacement. The Echo Dot Kids' Edition will also come with one complimentary year of FreeTime Unlimited, which will give families access to more than 300 television shows, Audible books, and ad-free radio stations.

The company is also giving customers the chance to program Alexa through Alexa Blueprints. Through the program, users can create a more fun experience when interacting with their virtual assistant by creating their responses to customized questions and answers. The Alexa Blueprints templates include Storyteller, Fun & Games, Learning & Knowledge, and Compliments.
